Gulmarg is located at an altitude of nearly 9000 ft above sea level in Kashmir in the lap of Pir Panjal range. Can be reached by road, train and air.
Its 56 Km North West of Srinagar and can be reached by road from any part of the country through Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Tangmarg-Gulmarg. The travel during monsoons may be disrupted between Udhampur and Srinagar due landslides. During winters valley experience snowfall and drive from Tangmarg to Gulmarg (12 Km) can be undertaken by a strong 4x4 vehicle or whose tires covered with snow chains.
The nearest airport is Srinagar which connects with Delhi and all major towns of the country. Taxis are available at airport from Srinagar to Gulmarg. During winters, all taxis may not have the ability to reach Gulmarg therefore one can hire vehicle till Tangmarg from where vehicles with 4x4 configuration or snow chains are available from Tangmarg to Gulmarg. Travel from Srinagar to Gulmarg takes about 2 hrs.
Train services are not yet connected with Kashmir valley. If one travels by train, he needs to get down at Jammu or further ahead at Udhampur (Only few trains) after which buses or taxis are available till Srinagar. Taxis are available from Srinagar to Tangmarg-Gulmarg.
